Someone once said that being a writer was like always having homework. That’s very true. There’s always something new to learn.

One of the most useful skills for a freelance writer to learn is copywriting.

Copywriting is promotional writing, and no matter what kind of writing you do, you need copywriting skills.

* If you’re writing feature articles for magazines, you need copywriting skills to craft the article proposal, as well as the article headlines;

* If you’re writing for the Web you need copywriting skills to develop a sales-worthy Web site;

* If you’re writing fiction, you need copywriting skills to develop a selling proposal.

Copywriting teaches you to step out of your writer’s shoes, and into the shoes of your audience - your editors and readers. When you learn to view your writing through the eyes of your audience, your writing has a powerful effect.

Of course, once you learn copywriting skills, you can put them to use for others - copywriters are always in demand.
