If you’ve made the switch to writing for the Web, you’ll realize that there’s a lot involved.
Learning Web writing – information into knowledge
You start by learning: discovering how other writers make money online – by writing, articles, blogs, PLR content, ebooks… and much more.
As you learn, you put your information into practice. This is vital. Until you use the information you have, it’s just trivia. You must turn it into knowledge.
“Information CONVERTED into knowledge” is the reason I structured SYWON as I have. Each lesson contains an assignment, and as writers complete assignments, they now have valuable knowledge they can use. Several writers have said they’re “behind” with the lessons, and I’m thrilled to hear this. It means that these writers are busy converting the information into knowledge.
You can complete SYWON at your own pace; but what’s essential is that you use your new-found information so that it becomes part of you.
How to manage the avalanche of information online
Next, once you’ve created your sites and blogs, and are servicing your Web writing clients, you need to develop a workflow.
My workflow depends on whatever “big” project I’m focusing on, and all other tasks flow around that. You’ll design your own workflow, as Web writing becomes a profit center for you.
Managing Information Flow: How Prioritization Will Improve Your Work and Learning Efficiency reports:
“I’ve noticed that sometimes I don’t read everything that shows up in my RSS feed reader and even if I do, I don’t peruse the entire article or pause to think more about what the author has written (which is an excellent way to appreciate new ideas). Why? Because there’s just too much information to process and a limited amount of time/attention.”
That’s the challenge when you write for the Web: not being seduced by information.
Limit your information gathering, and focus on turning the information into knowledge.

I’m terminally distracted by information
One of my solutions is to use two feed readers, e.g. by creating two accounts with Google Reader. Select essential feeds ruthlessly and use one account with only those feeds.
Put the rest in your second reader and consult it less often. You reduce the number of enticing headlines that can distract you.
