Freelance writers have it good online. You can write whatever you please, and chances are good that someone will pay you for it.

Let’s look at ebooks. (BTW, check out my Top Ebook Writer site for great ebook tips.)

Selling an ebook online couldn’t be simpler.

Put up a Web page describing your ebook, and add a way for people to buy the ebook. The most common way is to add a PayPal or Google Checkout payment button. You get the button by joining PayPal and/ or Google Checkout and following the instructions on how to create a payment button. (On PayPal, look under Merchant Services.)

Once your payment button has been created, you just copy the code onto your Web page - just paste it in.

Once the page has been published, your button will appear.

When a buyer pays, you deliver

The next step is to create a delivery mechanism for when eager buyers purchase your ebook.

You can offer a download link on your site, but you need a way to protect that link, so that casual surfers and the outright wicked don’t download your ebook for free.

If you’re new to selling ebooks online, I recommend that you simply deliver by email. Just add a note to the Web page, under the button: “On payment, your ebook will be sent via email. Delivery within 12 hours on a business day, within 24 hours on weekends.”

Once you’ve made a few sales, you can investigate the many sites which offer digital delivery mechanisms. There are also programs you can buy which will protect your downloads on your site, and will deliver your ebooks when payment has been made. But in the beginning, when you’re not making many sales, deliver via email.
