One of the most common questions freelance writers ask me is “When are you going to have writing jobs on the Fab Freelance Writing site?”

The answer’s always the same: “Ummm… Never.”

Now I know that you want writing jobs, as do we all. However, you’re a freelance writer; this means that you’re an independent business person. Job hunting wastes time, particularly if it’s for dinky little $100 writing jobs.

There are times you need to job hunt - when you’re just starting out, and when all five of your best clients run off to Argentina or go belly-up at the same time for example.

However, even as an absolute beginning writer, you need to get out of the JOB mindset, and into the BRANDING mindset.

You’re a rare bird

Hard as it may be to believe, good freelance writers are rare. Most freelancers are flakey and unreliable. I’m not being hard on freelancers, I love them. It’s just the nature of creative people until they get their creativity under some kind of control.

So if you’re a good freelance writer, by which I mean:

* You take writing seriously

* You do the best you can on each project

* You’re easy to get along with

* You keep deadlines

You’re a very rare bird indeed, and clients will flock to your door, once they know you exist.

So you need to brand yourself. I’ve been hammering this forever with freelancers, and I’ll continue to do it.

Nevertheless, here’s a page for you, if you’re hunting for writing jobs…

The Monster List of Freelancing Job Sites - FreelanceSwitch - The Freelance Blog:

“When it comes to freelancing, one of the biggest challenges can be finding work. Even the most successful of freelancers will experience a lean month here and there, so it pays to have as many sources of potential work as possible.”

But PLEASE remember, get to work on some self promotion - brand yourself, so that clients come to you. It’s much easier, and you’ll make more money. :-)
