The world of freelance writing is beset by hoaxes and scams. Perhaps you know this to your cost. You’ve been scammed by -

* The e-testing scam (“just write an article/ a chapter/ five pages for us, so we can assess your skills”) – this is a sleazy way of getting free content;

* “Write for us for exposure” really means “write for us because we’re too cheap to pay for content – we also have no clue about running a profitable business”;

* Paying reading costs to agents. You do not pay agents up front, ever. They negotiate contracts for you for which they receive 15 per cent of whatever the project earns over time.
