As more as more freelance magazine writers make the jump from print to the online world, I’m fascinated by the innovative ways they’re finding to use their skills, and their article inventory.
Ruby S. recently started a members-only online newsletter for entrepreneurs. She says: “I had this mass of business and finance material for which I’d sold just first and second serial rights. It occurred to me that I could repurpose the articles for a business finance newsletter for entrepreneurs.”
Christine W. is selling short reports based on the parenting articles she’s written for magazines for the past decade. “I’ve got several hundred articles and most of the material’s evergreen. I just compile an article with a short intro and cute personal story, then tag on a resource list, and I’m done. With 15 to 20 pages selling for $27, I’m finally getting some value from my backlist of articles… I was close to throwing this material out.”
So, what material do YOU have that may be valuable once you repurpose it for the online world?
This week’s article “Short Reports Are Easy for Writers to Write and Sell” in Fab Freelance Writing Ezine may give you some ideas.
The issue is out on Wednesday.
