Make Money Writing Articles: Five Article Types To Write

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Want to make money from home? If you can write a letter, you can write articles and can sell them online to Web sites which are desperate for content.

You can sell your articles directly to Web sites, or you can create your own Web site, and sell advertising on the site. When people visit your site, you’re paid by your advertisers.

Here are five different types of articles you can write:

1. The Instructional article: teach your readers how to do something

You’re an expert at many things. If you’re a cook, you know how to bake a roast; if you’re a dieter, you know how to cut calories; if you’re a dog owner, you know how to keep your pet healthy.

Instructional articles teach, in step by step fashion. Writing instructional articles is easy - little or no research is required.

2. Write Review articles for books, DVDs - anything at all

We’re all consumers, and we all want to make the right choice when we buy something. So we look for reviews. If you’ve bought a computer, a mountain bike, or a diet program, review it. Review articles are easy to write.

3. Inspirational articles are always popular

Inspirational articles motivate people. If you’ve survived a difficult experience, you’ll got material for hundreds of articles. Tell others the secrets to surviving divorce, or surviving a serious illness.

4. Tip lists: everyone loves Top Ten lists

I can’t resist list articles. They’re easy to read, and I always find a nugget of information I can use. When you’re writing articles, list articles are a snap to write. You can make your list articles as long or as short as you like; you’re not restricted to “top ten” lists.

5. “How I did it” articles share your hard-won experience

“How I did it” are inspirational articles in which you share your expertise step by step. Perhaps you survived being fired from your job, or you survived when the airline lost all your luggage, or you survived bankruptcy.

Whatever your experiences, you can share your tales of survival in many step by step articles.

When a Web site buys a magazine, it’s time to start thinking about new markets

The Knot Gets A Bump says:

“You know the media world has been turned upside down when Websites start buying magazines. Today, the Knot, which operates the wedding site of the same name, acquired The Bump, a group of local magazines and maternity guides in 11 cities. Terms were not disclosed.”

I know many freelancers target the wedding/ first home/ parenting demographics, and if this is you, take the hint and start targeting new Web sites sprouting in those niches. You should be able to get a weekly article (column in mag terms) or even a twice weekly blogging gig.

The above three demographics are hungry markets, so even if you’re just starting out as a freelance writer, you’ll got a great chance of becoming a regular contributor to new sites.

Make money writing Web sites

If you can use a word processor, you can write Web sites.

Many writers shy away from creating Web sites… they imagine it’s too techy, too complex. It’s not. A small simple site can begin earning money for you very quickly. As a rule of thumb, if you’ve created a site in an area in which there are advertisers you can start earning five to ten dollars a day per site. Now $10 a day isn’t much. But what if you had ten sites all earning $10 day? That’s $100 a day, which is $36,500 a year, just from ten simple sites. What if you had 20 such sites, all earning you $10 a day - or even more - in fact, some sites will earn you $100 a day? “Super-Fast Money-Making Web Sites For Writers: Join The Web-Publishing Bonanza” shows you how.

Boost your freelance writing success with visualization

Stuck in your freelance writing career? Try mental imagery, also known as virtual memory and visualization.

Many freelance writers use visualization for success. Unfortunately, many more freelance writers use visualization to stay stuck in a rut - they worry about their writing.

A worrying writer is using visualization to destroy his career.

Unsure whether you’re a worrying writer? A worrier is a writer who:

* Can’t write unless everything is perfect. That is, you’ve got an hour of free time where you’re guaranteed no interruptions, plus you feel inspired, and plus you have permission from your family to write. And the weather needs to be right too - you can’t write when it’s too hot, or too cold;

* Thinks everything he writes is junk, and has no idea how to fix it. After all, you can’t submit to a magazine or a Web site if your writing isn’t Pulitzer quality, right?;

* Revises Chapter One 523 times, and then can’t get started on Chapter Two;

* Obsesses about exactly what the editor meant when he wrote “not right for us” (clue - he meant not right for them) for ten weeks, and then polls everyone he knows on every writing forum on exactly what fonts and paper to use in submitting to the Chicken Pluckers’ Monthly;

* Will write when he retires/ when the kids are older/ when he has more money/ after the writing conference he’ll attend in 2010.

Worrying writer or not, you can start today to use visualization to boost your freelance writing success.

There are endless books on visualization, and if you haven’t read any, go and read. It’s a worthwhile investment of your time - the books will show you how to use your imagination to help your writing.

Visualize the end result for success

With visualization, you visualize the end result - your name on the cover of a book, having lunch with your agent, depositing a check for your advance. You imagine this as completely as you can, with all sensory details - sights, sounds, touch and so on.

Visualization is used by sports people to achieve results. If you want freelance writing success, you’ll use it too.
