I’ve just posted this on Start Writing For Money, and thought I’d post it here as well, because most writers, whether new or experienced, just don’t write enough, and that causes all sorts of problems.

You’re a new writer, so writing A LOT is essential for you, as it is for all writers. I encourage you to subscribe to YEW (Your EveryDay Write.)

This program is completely free. I send you two email messages a week, with writing prompts and writing tips. Following along with those prompts will amaze you with their effect.

I insist that all my students write as a “practice”, and YEW is designed to help you to do that.

Initially, YEW was for my private writing students exclusively. However, while chatting with new writers daily, I realized that 90 per cent of their challenges occurred because they just weren’t writing enough.

(Read my Write More ebook to improve your fast-writing skills.)

Why is writing a lot essential?

Writing a lot is essential because practice is essential for every profession. The more you practice anything, the better you get at it.

Early in my career, I realized that whenever I took a break from writing for a few days, I spent a day or two writing stiffly. I experienced doubts about the project I was working on, and my skills as a writer. Finally it dawned on me that the only writing I was doing was writing for others - I wasn’t feeding my own interests and love of writing. My creativity suffered, and writing became much more difficult than it should be.

So if the only writing you do is when you want to sell something, you’ll find that it takes you five times longer than it should to write - you may even suffer writers’ block.

Write a lot - YEW will help you. :-)
