Quick Tip: Get started selling your writing

Welcome to Quick Tips for freelance writing, a new series covering… yep, quick tips. :-)

If you’re a new freelancer, the name of the game is fast easy sales, and selling your writing depends on two things: your expertise, and the demand for your expertise.

Put another way, it’s “Write what you know that publishers are willing to pay for.”

Make a list of what you know – the industry in which you’re employed, your hobbies, your enthusiasms, and find publications (online and offline) catering to those interests. Then offer those publications stories, and before too long, you’ll have established a connection and will make sales.

BTW, this works for freelancers of any age; there’s no age requirement for freelance writers.
