If you’re suffering from writer’s block, or are going through a dry period where you just can’t settle down and get into flow, try this “left hand/ right hand exercise.”
You’re going to ask yourself questions by writing out the questions by hand, not via the keyboard.
Then you’ll write the answers using your non-dominant hand. (Your non-dominant hand is the one you don’t usually use for writing, that is, your left hand if you’re right-handed.)
You can ask any questions you like. The answers may surprise you.
For example, if you can’t find time to write, write down the question: “Why can’t I find time to write?” with your right hand, if you’re right-handed.
Then switch to your other hand, and answer the question.
Ask and answer five questions.
It’s best to find a quick place where you can be alone for half an hour or so. Play some relaxing music. Your aim is to completely relax, and communicate with your creative self.
