Fear is a major block for many freelance writers. This is just as true for published writers, who have many writing credits, as it is for writers who are new to writing for money. You CAN deal writing fear a knock-out blow. Here’s how.

Make friends with your writing fear
If you’re not writing as much as you feel you could, or should, it’s likely that you’ve got a fear that’s blocking you.

The first step in eliminating the fear is to make friends with it. In your journal, write a couple of pages on “my writing fears”. Start off with “I’m scared to write, because_______”

You will be amazed at what comes up when you journal about your fears, and how manageable your fears become when you write them down. One writer said: “I wrote down that I was scared to write because I wouldn’t make money. Well, that was the dopiest thought ever! Of course I wouldn’t make money if I didn’t write at all. And if I didn’t make any money writing, so what?”

Your fear’s job is to protect you. Once you journal about your fears, and make friends with them in this way, you will usually find that your fear is out of all proportion. Seeing that it is, frees you to write.

My writers’ ebook, the “Top 70 Writing Tips To Help You To Write More” has lots of exercises to help you to overcome fear and anxiety. Use the techniques it teaches you to unlock your true creativity.
