Write anywhere, when you write for the Web

I write for the Web from Sydney, Australia. I know Web writers who live in the UK, in Spain, and in tiny rural towns in the US.

We write for companies all over the world, and we’re so busy that we all regularly turn down work.

Here’s a snippet from my ebook, “Writing For The Web”, which helps you to become a successful, confident Web writer:

Four: Find businesses which need your services online

As you wander around the Web — and you should do this regularly, just to get an idea of what’s out there — you’ll come across sites which are, well, awful. Aside from common grammatical errors, and spelling mistakes, you’ll find Web site copy which sounds as though it’s been written by a computer, not by a person.

Send such sites an e-mail message, offering your services. Personalize the e-mail, so that it’s not perceived as spam. Offer to jazz up the copy on the site, and tell them your fees. Many online (and offline, for that matter) business owners don’t know what a writer is or does, or even that there are people who make their living from offering writing services.

Discover how to write for the Web. It’s the freelance writing career of the new millennium.

Thanks for the good info and inspiration you have on your site, Angela. Have tried this technique but have never found it successful. In my experience, people either take offense, or they don’t believe it’s important, or they treat you like you’re conniving. BTW, with respect to correct grammar–I think the “which” in the title of this excerpt should actually be “that.” It’s one of those things that people often confuse, because (I think) it’s hard to explain the difference in a way that people easily remember.
