I was chatting with a freelance writing friend this morning. She’s been freelancing for ten years, and although she loves the work and her lifestyle, she’s concerned about investing enough for her retirement and is investigating her options.

“You know that the best long-term investment that you can make is your investment in YOUR OWN writing, don’t you?” I asked. I know that she has a Web site, but I’ve haven’t seen her producing any products that she can sell, nor is her site set up so that she can monetize it. And she doesn’t have a blog, either.

“What do you mean?”
